About

Website

This website was created partially as a personal website and partially as an opportunity to learn HTML/CSS and hosting. You can read more about it's creation over in projects. In short, it is static HTML/CSS hosted on an S3 bucket and served over Cloudflare, but anyone who is interested should check out the project page.

Author

Kyle Colton studied Statistics and Mathematics at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), and now works as a Ground Station Engineer at an aerospace company.

Look, third-person writing is difficult and seems pretentious. Just read the website until I get a chance to write more here.

Contact

<firstname>@<domain>

This site is designed to be fairly slim and is a static set of files hosted by a cloud computing providor. I haven't found a great way to integrate CAPTCHA or other human / bot tests. With that in mind, I'm hesitant to spell out my contact email for web crawlers and spiders to read, but I hope it's clear from the above.

Organizations and Links

W6YRA

The Bruin Amateur Radio Club (W6YRA) is an amateur radio organization at UCLA.

ELFIN

The Electron Losses and Fields Investigation (ELFIN) CubeSat is a small satellite mission out of UCLA. ELFIN was funded in part by NASA and NSF. Additionally, ELFIN was part of the University Nanosatellite Program (UNP NS-8) put on by the Air Force Research Lab.

Elfin is a 3U CubeSat to study the mechanisms responsible for the loss of relativistic electrons from the radiation belts. Kyle worked on both ground and space-segment communications, the power system, and as student Chief Engineer of the project while at UCLA. The satellite is scheduled to launch in September 2018 on a Delta II with ICESat-2 as the primary payload.

BruinSpace

Bruinspace was founded as ELFIN entered later stages of development in an attempt to foster new space missions beyond ELFIN. It has grown massively under the leadership of Nick Adair and Lydia Bingley.
